Our Story
Granite started in 2018 as a group of professionals looking for a more intelligent way to run a practice.
Between us, we were using 14 software solutions to run our organisations in compliance with the latest data protection rules under GDPR. We were duplicating work, moving data from one system to another. Our patients struggled to access their records, creating frustration for them & extra work for our teams. We could not understand why software seemed to work for organisations, professionals or patients but never for all 3.
We put our heads together to plan a new approach, specifically designed for modern medicine, where patients are treated by multiple professionals in different organisations (and countries), using clinical record systems of various forms that don’t talk to each other.
There was a clear need for a modern practice management system and so, with the help of leading Practice Management companies, we built one! Granite PMS is a best-in-class solutions for all aspects of practice management and has gone from strength to strength.
Simultaneously, the Granite Platform started to take a foothold in the NHS. We were awarded a place on the prestigious NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme where the utility of a patient-controlled record was limitless.
Our starting point was identifying patients as the common denominator. We realised that by designing Granite not just around patients, but for them, we run efficient organisations whilst leading the way towards a truly patient centric data model, empowering and involving patients as never before.
At its core, we designed the Granite Platform to be a simple and secure data management and communication system for healthcare organisations of any discipline or size, that can stand alone or fit in seamlessly with existing workflows. What really sets us apart is that it has been designed by people who passionately believe that enhancing patients' experiences is simply good business.
Granite quickly became the heartbeat of our practices and of many others. But this was just the start of the story. As more professionals and patients joined our community, they came to us with many great ideas. A common theme was that clinicians wished to use Granite to manage all aspects of their practice including administration and billing.
We met many clinicians with fantastic ideas for applications that would sit seamlessly on the Granite Platform and partnered with a Vascular team to build an exercise therapy app for patients. Walk-a-Cise prescribes and monitors exercise therapy to patients, accessing their wearable devices to capture real-time biometric data and feed these back to their doctors remotely. As well as giving contemporaneous oversight of a patient’s health, the technology is planned to automatically detect changes in walking distance that may indicate a deterioration of disease and therefore prevent the risk of a catastrophic event or need for complex latter treatment. This is a great example of how everyone, from patients, to clinicians, to the wider healthcare system, can benefit from shared records and have applications across many medical specialities.
